Yellow { and The Power of Colour }

My emotions became the better of me during the week. I found myself in a slump. An emotional slump. A blogging slump. I was in a mood. And a very negative one at that.

I was over the constant 40 degree heat day after day after day, over the repetitive sameness that can be living in this town at times. Over being stuck in the middle of nowhere. Annoyed that it's costing the four of us $6,000 to return home to Tasmania for Christmas. I wanted to be back in amongst civilisation. Visit the beach. Visit a trendy cafe. Be anywhere else but here.

I found myself on Pinterest one night (when I should have been in bed sleeping). Pinning wildly. Surrounded by so many beautiful and inspiring images and ideas. And I was reminded of the power of colour to lift and brighten your mood.

Yellow truly is "my" colour. I find it so uplifting and happy. You can't help but think good thoughts when you look at images such as these. They are certain to put a smile on your dial.

What I'm clearly realising, is that I need more splashes of yellow in my life and home. I've always coveted a yellow dala horse so it's probably time I tried to find one. And while I continue to try and convince my husband that we should paint our dining chairs yellow, I might just have to settle for some yellow nail polish, for now. But mostly what I need is to buy a house with stairs, because of all these images, the yellow wall papered stairs are my absolute favourite. Instant happy.

Do you have a colour?
Does it brighten your mood?

  5. My kitchen is a bright sunshine yellow. It was one of the first rooms I painted when we moved in and 8 years later, I still love the color.

  9. I'm sorry you've been flat. 40 degree heat can do that. When I lived in the middle east, in the summers I used to get the equivalent to ''winter sickness'' that they get in Europe from lack of sunshine... for the same reason...lack of outdoor activity and sunshine. Trapped in Aircon all the time, and listless from the sweltering heat.

    Something we used to do, which helped a lot, was go running in the dunes at dusk when it was cooler. A group of us running, followed up by a drink afterwards. I don't know if you can do anything like that?? Sure, we'd sweat, but a cold beer and a cool shower afterward made me feel amazing!

    Take heart...firstly you have yellow!!! and secondly the season will come to an end. The heat will abate. Hang in there.

  10. Love the nails! 40 stretches will do your head in quite understandably. I think we are through ours this summer but I keep watching the weather and bracing for the possibility the last stretch really did me in.
    I hope the yellow has lifted your spirits!

  11. Hot pink. Paired marimekko-style with red. Although i can be swayed to that coral-ly colour where hot pink is combined with orange. I fought against it for a while (think I got a little oversaturated in the 80's) but realise it's my colour home. Hope you have a better week this week.
